Open Your Eyes!

"Christianity has become bloated with blind followers who would rather repeat slogans than actually feel true compassion and care. Christianity has become marketed and streamlined into a juggernaut of fear mongering that has lost its own heart."
-an non Christian from Mississippi

I have said it before, Christians are so blind and stupid when it comes to certain things. We build ourselves in our own little Christian worlds and judge and persecute people outside of that world. And we end up wondering why so many people hate us, and don't want anything to do with Jesus. We're a hypocritical selfish people who worship the creation instead of the Creator. If you disagree I ask you to ask one of your non Christian friends what they think about Christians in general. I talked to one of my good friends last night and she agreed. And as Christan's, if we believe that these people's opinions mean nothing and we shouldn't let their comments bother us, we're wrong and need to realize that by understanding "non believers", we get a chance to point them to Jesus, and show them Jesus through our lives! Dick Staub, author of The Culturally Savvy Christian, says it best, "...Christians have sought comfort in a protective cocoon, circling the wagons to keep the 'good people' in and the 'bad people' out, only occasionally venturing out of the cocoon to do combat with the wider culture." Today I bought UnChristian by David Kinnaman and this is what has sparked this sudden outburst of strong emotion towards this topic, along with past conversations I've had; I felt like I should explain myself. In this book he states, "To engage non Christians and point them to Jesus, we have to understand and approach them based on what the really think, not what we assume about them. We cant overcome their hostility by ignoring it. We need to understand their unvarnished views of us." I couldn't agree more, not too many tings get me fired up more than seeing fellow Christians putting a non believer down or refusing to let them voice their opinion because they disagree. The reason I write this post and the reason, I believe, the book UnChristian was written was to help you realize that by understanding people's viewpoints better and caring for them it will help us offer them genuine hope and a great message that is Jesus Christ.

My good friend Brad took this a couple weeks ago, it has no intended relation to my post but I thought it was a sweet photo.
