Coffee and Culture
Today I was done with school at 9:05 am (PSEO in all it's glory), and I decided to go to Full Cup Cafe in Lebanon. I wasn't really in the reading mood, so I decided to get caught up with the local newspapers, read some interesting things online, and maybe write a post or two. I guess the whole purpose of this post, like the rest of my mediocre posts, is very random and not well thought out. But I just really like coffee shops and spending time in them. There is just something about the feeling I get when I'm in them that I get that is just hard to explain. I instantly become focused (partially because caffeine temporarily cures ADD), and I just feel relaxed and at home. Kinda strange, I know. Here are some points of interest to me that I discovered today:
I today's Cincinnati Enquirer there is an article that caught my eye titled "From Crips to Christ - how one bullet changed one man's direction." The basic summary of the article is, This guy, Drew Cotton, was a former Crips gang member from L.A. who now lives in Cincinnati. He was at his apartment watching TV with his "friends" when all of a sudden one of the guys came up behind him and shot him in the back of the head at point blank. "It was divine intervention or an act of God that the gun had only one bullet in it, so he shot me only one time, or I would be dead" Cotton says. The bullet went through the back of his neck, grazed his spine, severed a nerve in his tongue, and stopped an inch below his right eye. Cotton now works as a "street advocate" for Cincinnati Human Relations Commission, building relationships with teens on the street of Cincinnati who's lives are filled with gang violence. After his incident, Drew says he "...wept like a baby for two days, repenting and thanking the Lord for saving my life..." The whole interview was to say "...Jesus is the way to a changed life." Which I believe he is much more, but one of those things is a changed life, so kudos Mr Cotton.
Oh and Stephen Colbert is running for President of the United States, in the Republican/Democrat party. HAHA
I know who I'm voting for. This MAN:
